- Abstract:
- Co-29Cr-7W-5Si (wt%) was prepared via high-velocity oxygen-fuel system. Its oxidation behavior at 1100 °C in air containing water vapour was investigated. The oxidation kinetics of the coatings for 150 h was established using classical oxidation theory. After multiple cycles of thermal shock oxidation followed by water quenching, a dense Cr2O3 protective layer was formed on the surface of the coating, beneath which a SiO2 pinning layer was generated. Although this significantly enhanced its oxidation resistance, longitudinal cracks occurred because of thermal stress. After 144 cycles, the cracks underwent filling-type self-healing owing to rapid diffusion and oxidation.
